Julija Stankevičiūtė graduated from the Ballet Department of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art, class of Beatričė Tomaševičienė, in 2017. She also honed her ballet technique with the Ballet de l’Opéra National du Rihn where she participated in the production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker (choreographed by Ivan Cavallari) and at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in 2016. As a student she made several successful appearances at international dance competitions, including the 2015 International Classical Dance Contest of Grasse (France) where she won Gold Medal and the jury prize for the best performance and the 1st Gamar Almaszadeh classical and folk dance competition in Baku (Azerbaijan) in 2016 where she won 1st prize and special jury prize.
Immediately after the graduation, she joined the ballet company of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre where she is currently appointed ballet soloist. Her roles in the LNOBT’s recent productions of classical ballets have included Pas de trois (Swan Lake), Odalisque (Le Corsaire) and Variation Soloist (Don Quixote). She came to prominence through her appearances in the productions of contemporary dance performances choreographed by Martynas Rimeikis, including Der Prozess (LNOBT, 2017), Days, Minutes (LNOBT, 2019) and Eglė, Queen of the Grass Snakes (Klaipėda State Music Theatre, 2019). For the latter two roles she was awarded the Golden Cross of the Stage as the best dancer of the year 2019.
