Kristina Gudžiūnaitė (b. 1989 in Krasnodar, Russia) graduated from the ballet department of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts in Vilnius, in 2008 (teachers Beatričė Tomaševičienė and Petras Skirmantas). In 2008-2009 she studied at the Heinz Bosl Foundation Ballet Academy in Munich (teachers: Hans Joachim Metz, Constanze Vernon, Kirill Melnikov), and also took part in the intensive dance course (2007) organised by the Royal Ballet School at Covent Garden, and in the educational programmes at the Australian Ballet and the Sydney Opera House. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in culture management from Vilnius College (2017).
During the season 2009-2010, Gudžiūnaitė was a member of the corps at the Hong Kong Ballet. In 2013, she performed the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in Canyon Concert Ballet’s production of Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker in Fort Collins, in the U.S. Since 2010, she has been soloist (since 2014, principal soloist) with the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Ballet Company. Her roles at this theatre include Clara’s friend, the Doll and Clara in Delibes’ Coppélia, Princess Florine (Bluebird pas de deux), Jewel Variation, Princess Aurora in Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty, Bianca in Anatolijus Šenderovas’ ballet Desdemona, Nikiya in Minkus’ La Bayadère, Effie in Bournonville’s La Sylphide, Osilde in Tristan and Isolde after the music by Richard Wagner, Odette-Odille and Marie in Tchaikovsky’s ballets Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, Gerda in The Snow Queen after the music by Sergei Prokofiev, Little Radish Girl in Karen Khachaturian’s ballet for children Cipollino, Eglė in Eduardas Balsys ballet Eglė, Queen of the Grass Snakes, Juliet in Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, Kitri in Minkus’ Don Quixote, Medora and Giselle in Adam’s ballets Le Corsaire and Giselle, Colombine in Drigo’s Les millions d’Arlequin, the Sun in Antanas Jasenka’ ballet In the Beginning There Was Nothing, etc.
In 2006, Gudžiūnaitė won the first prize at the International Ballet Competition in Grasse (France) and became a semi-finalist in the 2008 Prix de Lausanne competition (Switzerland). She was awarded first prize and the Audience Choice Award at the Stora Daldansen Competition (Sweden). She was also awarded the Ballet Talent Award by the Australian Ballet Foundation. In 2014, she was nominated for the Golden Cross of the Stage Awards, and that same year was named Ballet Soloist of the Year at the Opera Beacons Awards. In 2017, she won the Golden Cross of the Stage for the roles of Juliet and Kitri.
