Sergiy Didok (b. 5 April 1981) graduated from the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music with a Master’s degree in opera and symphonic conducting in 2009. During his studies, he actively participated in the musical life of the Academy, conducting the Academy Orchestra. His diploma work in conducting was a concert performance of Rachmaninov’s opera Aleko with the Academy’s Opera Studio Orchestra and soloists.
Since 2005, he has been teaching conducting and various related disciplines (history of conducting, orchestral music styles, etc.) at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. In 2006, he won special prize “Hope” at the 1st Stefan Turchak International Conducting Competition for his original interpretations of works by Bartók and Beethoven. In 2008–2010 he led the chamber orchestra of the Military Music Centre of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Didok has also arranged works for the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Ukraine and their recordings have been added to the record archives of the National Radio of Ukraine.
Since 2020, Sergiy Didok has been appointed Acting Chief Conductor of the Kyiv National Academic Operetta Theatre where he has conducted the following productions: Alexander Kolker’s musical Truffaldino from Bergamo (based on the film of the same title by Vladimir Vorobyov, 1975; Didok translated the libretto of this musical into Ukrainian), the musical Chasing Two Hares (Za dvoma zaytsiami) by Vadim Ilyin and Vladlen Lukashov, Franz Lehár’s operetta The Merry Widow, and Pavel Valdgardt’s musical for children The Cat’s House based on the fairy tale by Samuel Marshak of the same title.
